Summary of VIP Thrombosis Working Group Discussion 2008

Outreach
As a multi-disciplinary organization it is imperative that NATF reach out to the various stakeholders of thrombosis and cardiovascular disease.  On September 26, 2008, NATF held a VIP Thrombosis Leadership Working Group Discussion focused on the subject of “Outreach.” The list of discussants reflects NATF’s multi-disciplinary approach for providing tools to break down and integrate traditional “silos.”  As such, well-known representatives from various “silos” were invited, including: clinical and research physicians, scientists, nurses, pharmacists, patients/caregivers, and policy makers.

Discussion group attendees were asked to discuss two questions, both related to Outreach: 1)  Who should be the target audience?, and 2)  What would be the best approach/methodology to outreach these audiences?   The same questions were asked within each of NATF’s five areas of focus: Basic/Translational Research; Clinical Research; Prevention/Education; Public Policy, and Advocacy.  The multi-disciplinary dialog enabled participants to learn from each other while beginning the task of creating a collaborative action plan to address this important issue.
The outcome of this conversation is summarized below.
