This program will focus on the unique risks and challenges that women face regarding their cardiovascular health, with a particular focus on thrombotic illnesses such as myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and venous thromboembolism (VTE). The program will also explore how biological changes across a woman’s lifespan can increase cardiovascular event risk and will further address best practices for managing this risk.
By the end of the activity, the learner will be able to:
- List strategies for diagnosing and treating thrombophilia states in young women
- Recall the risks associated with thrombophilia and cardiac conditions in pregnant women and formulate a strategy for treating patients with those conditions
- Describe how stroke places a disproportionate cardiovascular burden onto women and formulate a strategy to prevent stroke
- Identify the burden of nonatherosclerotic coronary disease in women
